As we know now, Alex Rodriguez proposed to Jennifer Lopez – finally! – over the weekend, while they were on holiday in the Bahamas. The reason I say “finally” is because Jennifer made it clear that she wanted and expected a proposal, and she’s been dropping hints for a full year. I still say that the proposal was part of some kind of ultimatum, but we’ll probably never know for sure. People Magazine has been all over it, because of course, so we get these sugary pieces about how Jen and Alex are “soulmates.”
Jennifer Lopez didn’t see Alex Rodriguez’s proposal coming, a source tells PEOPLE.
“Jennifer is ecstatic and so are their families and friends. Very few people knew Alex planned on proposing. It was very much a surprise for Jennifer,” the source says. “It was just how Alex wanted it.”
Opening up about how Rodriguez’s decision to pop the question during the couple’s romantic getaway to the Bahamas was “very fitting,” the source explains that the destination “has always been very special to them…Very early on in their relationship, they snuck away to the Bahamas to get to know each other in privacy,” the source adds.
“They are incredible together. Very much soulmates that bring out the best in each other and are so supportive of each other,” the source says. “From the start, they moved very quickly. Their relationship was always very passionate. Jennifer quickly fell very hard for Alex. And she quickly started planning for their future.”
That’s all well and good but can you really say that A-Rod is your soulmate when he’s your fifth fiance? Just asking! I’m actually happy for Jennifer, because I think she and A-Rod do suit each other. That being said… of course there’s already drama. Back in the day, A-Rod had an affair/relationship with Jessica Canseco, ex-wife of Jose Canseco. Jessica and A-Rod apparently kept in touch. They’re apparently STILL in touch, at least according to Jose Canseco.

So… there’s that. Welp. I mean, we knew A-Rod was a cheater, right? This isn’t a surprise? The only surprise is that Jose Canseco is outing him. But the truth is, this will probably make Jennifer even more hellbent on marrying Alex.
