Star Magazine has made Tom Cruise and Katie’s Holmes “troubled marriage” their cover story this week with the huge headline “The End”. Star isn’t even pretending their cover story is legitimate, so I’m not going to pretend either. Though I haven’t seen the text for the cover story yet, I suspect it’s a lot like the stuff In Touch Weekly has been running for months, always having to do with TomKat being “at war”. While I think their marriage definitely has issues, I doubt Katie’s contract is up, so for now she’s sticking with Tom.
Which brings me to another tabloid story, this one perhaps involving Katie’s alleged contract and whatever “birthin’ babies” clause is included. According to British sources, Tom is trying to pressure Katie into having another baby. While there have been variations on this story circulating for a while, this one has an added twist – even Cameron Diaz thinks Katie should have another baby! Camy should keep her nose out of their business, but this is interesting:
THE MARRIAGE of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is going through “a period of tension”, with the couple arguing over whether they should try for another baby to join three-year-old daughter Suri.
According to an English friend who has recently returned from visiting the pair in Boston, where they have relocated while Cruise works on his film Wichita, the cause of irritation between the two is the star’s “insistence” on having another baby.
I’m told: “They are arguing a lot because Tom feels he is getting on in age [he’s 47] and he thinks Katie owes it to him and Suri to get pregnant. He says he would be in his 60s while the child was young and that’s still just about OK to share in the child’s life.
“Katie feels Tom is more wound up about this than he’s ever been and relations between them are at a really tricky stage. She’s only 30 and she’s not sure about having another baby right now but then she feels guilty about Suri being an only child, especially as she grew up in a big family herself.”
Fuelling the tension between the couple, who have been married three years, are comments made, albeit unwittingly, by their mutual chum Cameron Diaz, who is also staying in Boston for the filming of Wichita.
Adds my source: “Cameron is besotted with Suri and innocently said to Tom in front of Katie how nice it would be for her to have a sibling to play with. She didn’t know what a hot potato the subject is between the two and after Cameron left their house they had another argument.”
Thrice-married Tom is said to be envious of some of his friends who have bigger families, including David and Victoria Beckham, who have paid a visit to Boston.
“Tom gets on really well with David and once they had a night in together watching a couple of films while the Beckham boys wandered in and out giving their dad a kiss and a hug.
“It made Tom quite envious. He said he would really love to have a little brother for Suri.”
Cruise has said that his wish to be a good parent stems from his own dysfunctional childhood. When he was 12 years old his mother left his father, a man Tom later described as “a merchant of chaos”. Cruise went to a total of 15 schools, doing part-time jobs such a newspaper delivery to help his mother make ends meet, and he says that he was frequently bullied as a result of his dyslexia.

Sometimes I really do wonder if Tom is pressuring Katie to get pregnant again. It seems like it could be possible, even likely. Suri is one of the best things to ever happen to Tom’s career comeback post-couch jumping. It would make sense, from a purely business and media standpoint, for Tom to want another baby to flaunt. Plus, I’m sure he genuinely enjoys being a dad. Here’s the thing… and I’ve said this before: I’ve always believed the conspiracy theories about Tom’s sterility and Suri’s sketchy paternity. Call me an idiot, whatever. I don’t believe Tom can have biological children.
