Nelly ‘can’t stay’ at Trump hotels anymore: ‘I’ve been staying there for 15 years’

I’m sure someone will provide me with a list of reasons why I shouldn’t like Nelly, but I can’t help it: I still really like Nelly. I haven’t followed his career that much in the past five years or so, but when Nelly was at his peak, he was one of the biggest artists around. It felt like he didn’t make many enemies during his most famous years, or maybe I wasn’t paying attention. The vibe I get from him is that he still has fans in a lot of demographics all around the world, and that to this day, people aged 10 to 70 still jam out to “Hot In Herre” whenever it comes on the radio. But that might change! The Deplorables might have to boycott him, because apparently Nelly is all “Donald Trump is #NotMyPresident.” Funnily enough, Nelly used to be a Trump fan.

Nelly may have shouted out Donald Trump in his hit song “Country Grammar” in 2000, but that probably would not have happened if he wrote the song today.

“You know the thing about Donald Trump is that I liked Donald Trump, I did, I just don’t like Donald Trump as my president,” the “Sounds Good to Me” rapper told Page Six Thursday. The 42-year-old said he feels the first family should set an example for their fellow Americans.

“He doesn’t surprise me as a person, he surprises me as a president because you don’t expect certain things, certain attitudes,” he explained.

Nelly’s personal gripe with The Donald, though, has more to do with where the rapper can sleep while on the road.

“You know, I’m more or less mad at him because I can’t stay at his hotels now … I’ve been staying there for 15 years, and now you pull this?” he lamented.

The rapper ended the conversation with a word of advice: “Get it together, homie!”

I think a lot of celebrities who knew Trump before he became Emperor Bigly feel similarly, as in, Trump stayed in his lane, he did his thing, and he owned hotels and whatever. They could overlook a lot of his behavior because he was a private citizen and he wasn’t in charge of anything beyond his golf courses and hotels. But as soon as he started running for office, those same people were like “nuh-uh.” And if Bigly has lost Nelly, can Middle America be far off? (Actually, I’m sure Trump would shrug this off and say that because Nelly is black, he obviously lives in a “hellhole” and is somehow less American than Monsieur Baby Fists).
