Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt: ‘We’re not super famous anymore, but we want a relaunch’

I had secretly hoped that the quiet coming from Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt’s camp these past few years was due to their reflection on how they’d let fame infect them. I realized when they accused the illuminati of blacklisting them that they’d done no reflection at all. At the time, Heidi was about six months pregnant and again, I stupidly thought, perhaps parenthood will refocus their energies. Nope. Heidi and Spencer are so desperate to be back in the spotlight, they are launching a podcast as an appeal for fame. That’s not my interpretation, the podcast is called Make Speidi Famous Again. Ugh.

She’s been a mom for nearly four months, and Heidi Pratt is getting the hang of things.

“I’m sleep-deprived and tired and busy, but it’s so perfect,” she gushes about life with Gunner, 3 months. “I waited a long time to have kids and it was meant to be to have him.”

Now, the 31-year-old former Hills star is back at work with a new project with husband Spencer, 34: a podcast called Make Speidi Famous Again. (The first episode of the podcast is available exclusively on PEOPLE.com today; for future episodes, subscribe at Apple Podcasts or go to )

“Spencer came up with the name,” explains Pratt. “It’s a fun expression of where we are now. We know we’re not super famous anymore, but we want a relaunch.”

I think most of us guessed, “Spencer came up with the name,” without being told. Now, I didn’t follow The Hills but relaunch what? These two were famous for being jack-sses, right? And from what little I’d gathered since their fall from fame, that save for their hummingbird conservation, which is admirable, they haven’t done much to correct course. I’m nervous because these two have proven they will do anything for celebrity. It’s one thing to want to be famous but it’s another thing to be fine with notoriety as long as it gets your name in the headlines. Unfortunately, they are not sparing their son from this mess. Not only is he featured in their promo photo for the podcast, their blurb ends, “with the occasional cameo from stud baby celebrity, Gunner Pratt!”

Part of me feels like I should applaud their raw and honest ambition but they appear so selfish, I just can’t. And this is just my personal opinion, but they have never done anything to establish themselves as authorities on pop culture so why do I care what they have to say about it? Why not a podcast on hummingbird rescue or a larger theme of bird or animal conservation? I know, I know – we’re talking about Speidi. I await their lineup for the “top notch celebrity guests” the promise on the show. So far they’ve announced Kristin Cavallari so… there’s that.
