Presenter Hailee Steinfeld was in a little seafoam green pleated Versace number with a criss cross halter top and a kind of valance across the skirt, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. Versace really brings smart, unique details to their designs. The only thing I would say about this dress is that the bust is in need of tailoring, but maybe it’s off the rack. Hailee, 20, is one of those young stars who puts out decent music and can also act. Zendaya is getting there but her music isn’t as popular. Look at Hailee’s legs, damn.
I’m also covering the fashion of the Fifth Harmony members. First off did you see their performance of Angel and Down? Please watch that if you want some inspiration or entertainment today. Also, their new self titled album came out Friday, I’ve been listening to that on Spotify, and it’s just as good as we’ve come to expect from them.
We don’t have separate photos of all of the Fifth Harmony members so I’m just going to cover then from left to right in the group photo above. Lauren Jauregui was in a red Cushnie Et Ochs gown which wasn’t super flattering and which we’ve seen so many versions of, but look at her styling she’s so pretty.
Ally Brooke was in Reem Acra. It’s like a typical little strapless gown with floral embellishments except they added capri pants. Meh.
Dinah Jane had my favorite look out of the group in a white formfitting Roberto Cavalli with an open back. She was joking after they won, for Best Pop Video, about how tall she was because she had to lean down so far for the mic. This dress makes her look statuesque.
Normani Kordei was in black Labourjoisie and I feel like this dress, or at least the elements of it, tight see-through mesh with sequin overaly, are super common. Check out her high bun though, I like that. Like her bandmates she has great styling.
I’m putting Kesha at the end here because I don’t want to come down too hard on her as I like and root for her. Kesha gave the intro to the suicide prevention segment, which was a good choice as she’s been honest and vulnerable about her struggles with self esteem and body image. This Monsoori gown is awful. Remember that crazy pink Giambattista Valli that Rihanna wore to the 2015 Grammys? That’s how you do a giant gown, with the emphasis on one comically oversized feature, the skirt or the top. Instead this adds too much bulk to both the bust and the skirt and it makes Kesha, a normal-sized person, look large. Imagine this with a fitted top in a different fabric that cinched at the waist and ended with the skirt, it wouldn’t be bad. This dress just looks too big for her overall as well.
