According to TMZ, Geena Davis’ husband, 47 year-old LA-area plastic surgeon Reza Jarrahy, filed for divorce on Tuesday. The papers, filed under the pseudonyms Rob and Veronica Doe, cite irreconcilable differences as the cause for the breakup.
Reza and Geena, 62, were married on September 1, 2001 and have three children together, 13-year-old twin sons Kaiis Steven and Kian William, and 16-year-old daughter Alizeh Keshvar. The couple separated last November. In the divorce papers, Reza is seeking spousal support and joint legal and physical custody of the children. He’s also requested that Geena be denied any spousal support.
Since I am unaware of what may or may not have been going on in their marriage, I can’t contribute much of an opinion, but one thing did strike me as odd. Sure, Geena probably can fend for herself just fine without any alimony payments, but is the LA plastic surgery scene going through some sort of a dry spell? I saw the pics from the Met Gala, someone is definitely profiting from cosmetic surgery in Hollywood. Just saying.
Reza was Geena’s fourth husband. She was previously wed to restaurateur Richard Emmolo and screenwriter/director/producer Renny Harlin, who nearly ended Geena’s career when he directed her in Cutthroat Island. He kind of made up for that with one of my favorite Geena Davis flicks (after Earth Girls Are Easy, of course) 1996’s Long Kiss Goodnight. Speaking of Earth Girls, Geena’s second hubby was her co-star in that movie, Jeff Goldblum.
Geena has been a vocal proponent of gender equality in media, heck, she even recently helped increase female visibility in an overlooked segment of the world of advertising, gender balancing the Otter Pops mascots through her Geena Davis Institute of Gender in Media, so the news of the demise of her marriage made me sad. I hope all parties make it through the split quickly and painlessly.
