It feels like Carrie Underwood can’t win when it comes to her accident. She was self conscious about her facial scars so she shared the details of her accident without posting a photo. Then she parceled out photos of her face gradually through social media, ultimately going out in public to perform at the ACM Awards on April 15th. A source told People Magazine that Carrie was “terrified” of people seeing the scars, which didn’t seem warranted because her scars weren’t visible anyway. When Carrie finally shared the details of her accident last week on a couple of different radio interviews many people didn’t believe her. In the video of her first interview, with Bobby Bones on iHeartRadio, you can see scars around her mouth, which is where she said she hit her face during a fall when walking her two dogs. Still, some people were skeptical and even the interviewer said he couldn’t see a difference in Carrie’s face. She recently shared this photo, below, and it’s supposedly about her husband’s hockey team, The Predators, but you can tell that she wants us to see the scar and know that it’s visible.
I’ve cried over bad haircuts several times. I get self conscious when I have a cold sore or a pimple and I’m not photographed and videotaped for my job. It must have been harrowing to have had her lip split wide open and not to know the extent of how it would heal. That is what she said in her first statement about her injury and in her interview, that she wasn’t sure how things would turn out. I bet she’s very upset about that scar. It doesn’t look like much to us but that’s her face. If I had a big scar like that you can bet that I would be hiding at home for a while and experimenting with coverups. I’m not saying that it looks bad, it really doesn’t, but if it was on my face I would worry about it.
Over the weekend, People reposted segments of interviews that Carrie did in 2014 and 2015 talking about the importance of makeup. She told Yahoo! that she does her own makeup on tour and finds it “therapeutic,” that she feels better when she has makeup on and that she doesn’t “think I ever have makeup-free days.” She always puts “makeup on, even if it’s just a little bit.” That really worked to her advantage in helping her look the same after her accident because we’re used to seeing her in full face makeup. It also made people accuse her of exaggerating the extent of her injuries.
Carrie has announced that her new album, Cry Pretty, will debut on September 14.
The photo below is from the second interview Carrie did last week, with Storme Warren on The Highway on Sirius XM. You can hear a segment from that interview on YouTube. She didn’t say much new except that she had “a little chip” on her teeth but that it was “mostly my skin.”
