For the record, I actually do like Taylor Swift. I think she’s interesting and often highly amusing. There are parts of her life, career and charity work that I admire and respect. But I’ve noticed something funny about Tay-Tay: every so often, she overplays her hand and she gets smacked down in spectacular fashion, and it’s always amazing to watch. If she has any flaws, it’s that she’s super-sensitive, humorless about herself and she believes that the world revolves around her and the narrative that she drives.
So following Calvin Harris’s Twitter takedown of Taylor yesterday, Twitter started throwing a party. The party started with the hashtag #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty. This reminds me so strongly of when Taylor inserted herself into Nicki Minaj’s VMA-race conversation and Taylor completely missed the point, overplayed her hand and consequently got dragged for it online. That was nearly one year ago exactly. And now the anti-Swift people have Calvin Harris on their side and Calvin isn’t afraid to say OUT LOUD that Taylor thrives off petty beefs with people like Katy Perry. And Katy isn’t afraid to drop some shade. Oh, and Katy’s fans have been blanketing Taylor’s Instagram comments with “snake” emojis too!! So, here are some of the TaylorSwiftIsOverParty tweets.
